It was brought to my attention last night that the Wrestling world lost another legend on March 3rd, former AWA wrestler Billy Robinson passed away at the age of 77 years old. Though Billy may have been more known to some as an International Wrestler as he was from England but because of his exposure with the AWA he became just as known in the United States. Billy was trained at the Snake Pit which was founded by the legendary Billy Riley, his school was/is one of the most respect catch wrestling schools in the world. This is the same place Karl Gotch trained before he entered wrestling & Robinson stayed at the Snake Pit for 8 years. In the mid 70's Robinson had the pleasure to wrestle Japanese Legend Antonio Inoki which was build as "The Match Between the World's Top Two Technicians" and Robinson inspired the formation of a shoot-style promotion in Japan called UWF. After his wrestling days were over Billy trained both wrestlers & MMA fighters like Josh Barnett, Kazushi Sakuraba, & UFC fighter Rolando Delgado; he trained wrestlers like, Marty Jones, James Maritato (Little Guido/Nunzio), Johnny Saint, El Signo, & others.
Billy Robinson is a legend of the wrestling business having held a title everywhere he had been and even more important on 3 different continents (Asia, Europe, & North America). He gave a lot back to the sport as well with some of people he trained above and even that he was doing it until his death earlier this week. Billy is a member of two Hall of Fame's Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame & Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame, also he was honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club in 1994. Billy will be missed by the fans who knew him, and his family and friends who loved & respected him. Thank You for your contribution to the wrestling industry and Though you might be Gone you will not be Forgotten.
RIP Billy Robinson
You Will be Missed
